On Thursday, June 19, a project will begin to replace two bridges on state Highway 170, approximately 3.5 miles east of Reading, in Osage County.

The project includes the removal of two existing bridge structures that will be replaced with a haunched slab span bridge and a reinforced concrete box. New guard fence and flatter side slopes will provide an extra measure of safety to the traveling public. Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work.

Sometime in mid-June, after traffic control has been installed, eastbound and westbound K-170 will be closed to all through traffic on either side of the two bridges throughout the project duration. A marked detour will be provided. From the K-170/K-99 intersection, traffic will detour via K-99 north to U.S. 56 south to K-170 east and conversely for traffic traveling the opposite direction. See detour map below.

Bryan-Ohlmeier Construction Co., Inc., Paola, Kan., is the primary contractor on this double bridge replacement project with a total contract cost of $1.189 million. The scheduled completion date for the bridge replacement project is late November 2014, weather permitting.

This project is funded by T-WORKS, the transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature in May 2010. Find out more about this and other T-WORKS projects at: http://kdotapp.ksdot.org/TWorks/.
