Fallen Vietnam veterans’ photos needed to complete ‘Wall of Faces’

061914-wall-of-facesThe Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund project, “Faces Never Forgotten,” needs help obtaining missing photos of those from Kansas whose names are inscribed on the Vietnam Memorial Wall, in Washington, D.C.

The Kansas Press Association and other U.S. press associations are enlisting local media to help find these photos to complete an electronic “Wall of Faces” in the new education center at the Vietnam Memorial Wall.

Osage County News has joined in the search for family members or friends who can provide a photo of their service member.

Three veterans with a hometown listed in Osage County are on the list of needed photos:

  • Dana J. Kaeberle, Osage City, birth date July 11, 1947 – casualty date Jan. 8, 1969.
  • James R. Anderson, Scranton, Aug. 7, 1943 – Feb. 9, 1969.
  • Francis L. Arb, Melvern, Jan. 16, 1943 – June 1, 1967.

KPA is searching for 265 photos of Vietnam veterans from Kansas, but reported this week that 12 photos have been found. More than 58,000 men’s and women’s names are inscribed on The Wall. Multiple photos of each service member are welcomed.

If you have a photo, feel free to mail it to Osage County News, and we’ll create an electronic file and make sure it gets to the right place. Or if you have the photo as an electronic file, email it to [email protected]. Please include name, rank, and hometown of the service member.

Photos can also be submitted directly to the VVMF at http://www.vvmf.org/how-to-submit.

You may view the gallery in progress at http://www.vvmf.org/Wall-of-Faces/. The wall is designed as a moving tribute to fallen veterans from across the U.S.

The photos are needed by the VVMF prior to Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2014.
