Summer brings Super Saturday to Lyndon

It’s a luau – it’s a car show – it’s garage sales – it’s Super Saturday. Yes, it’s Super Saturday in Lyndon on June 21, the first day of summer.

Bargain hunters are expected early as citywide garage sales run 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Maps are available at local businesses, or just cruise citywide. So far, one sale has been listed here: OCN County Comment – Garage Sales.

While driving around town, goings-on at City Park will be hard to miss, as the park will be filled with classic and vintage cars and motorcycles on display in the Lyndon United Methodist Church’s Get “Rev’d” Up Car and Cycle Show. The show, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., offers top 25 awards and 10 specialty awards. In addition to live music and a DJ, a special guest is expected: David Wolfe from Street Rodding American Style, a television series that features car shows from around the country.

Entry forms are available online at or call the church office at 785-828-4744. For more information contact Greg Thill at 785-828-3526 or [email protected] or Earl Detwiler at [email protected]. Day of show entry is $20.

The church will also be serving breakfast, lunch, homemade ice cream and homemade cinnamon rolls during the car show, with proceeds supporting local church camps, Bridges to the Future, LUMC preschool and MOPS.

And if being around all those hot cars heats you up, head to the Lyndon pool, where a summer luau gets under way at noon and continues until 8 p.m. Regular admission prices apply, but the pool will be rockin’ with music and fun games, and offer plenty of opportunity for being cool at the pool. Lyndon Pride will be serving up luau food 4-8 p.m. as a fundraiser for the group.

Saturday’s forecast: Mostly sunny, with a high of 91 at Lyndon; partly cloudy and low of 70 Saturday night.
