Evelyn Lucille Lawhorn, 76, Melvern: Oct. 29, 1937 – June 29, 2014

MELVERN – Evelyn Lucille Lawhorn, 76, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, in Topeka. She was born on Oct. 29, 1937, on the family farm near Lyndon, the daughter of Charles and Esther Odor Lininger.

Evelyn had lived most of her life in or near the Melvern community.

She graduated from Melvern High School in 1955. She worked for Capper’s Weekly, Hallmark Cards and Jostens, and was a homemaker. She attended the Melvern United Methodist Church and the True Grace Community Church. She was a member of Eastern Star, at Melvern, and the Wagonears Camping Club.

On February 27, 1956, Evelyn was married to Jerry Lawhorn, in Burlington.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Young, in 1994.

She is survived by her husband Jerry of 58 years; her five children, Jere Lynn Randall (Kerry) of Waco, Texas, Jack Lawhorn (Linda), Melvern, Denise Wilkins (Del), Mt. Pleasant, Penn., Marilyn Rose (Brad), Quenemo, and Angie Volkman (Mike), Melvern; a brother, Charles Lininger (Millie), Melvern; 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at the Melvern United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Feltner Funeral Home, in Lyndon. Burial will be in Melvern Cemetery.
