Two nights of fireworks to light Overbrook’s Independence Day celebration

Overbrook’s Fourth of July celebration begins Thursday evening at 6 p.m., with Grace Community Church’s annual community picnic and fireworks, then Fourth of July evening, Overbrook Pride promises another spectacular fireworks show at the park.

Friday morning the fun begins with the kid’s bike parade at 10 a.m., through the downtown and to the lake.

Kids are invited to decorate themselves, their bikes, wagons and pets to be in the annual parade. (No motorized vehicles.) Participants should meet at the old middle school parking lot at 10:20 a.m.; parade starts at 10:30 a.m. and travels west on Market Street, north on Maple Street, and east on Santa Fe Avenue to the park and ball diamonds. Spectators are invited to enjoy the parade anywhere along the route.

Parade participants and families will meet for a light hot dog lunch at the shelter house by the lake; families are asked to bring a plate of cookies to share.

After the parade will be horse and wagon rides, and everyone is invited to swim for free at the Overbrook swimming pool 1-5 p.m.

Overbrook’s Independence Day celebration ends with an evening of food, fun and fireworks at City Park.

Overbrook Pride has announced this year’s donations for fireworks are the best ever, promising a show that should be bigger and better than last year’s. But before the fireworks show at dark, DJ Darin Jones will set the park aglow with music, entertainment and karaoke. Concessions will be available, including kettle corn, snow cones and pulled pork sandwiches.

Overbrook Pride will hold drawings to give away a barbecue grill and a child’s bicycle. Tickets are $1 and available at the celebration.
