Clyde Richard Files, 84, Lyndon: Sept. 3, 1929 – July 7, 2014

LYNDON-Clyde Richard Files, 84, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2014, at Olathe Medical Center. He was born on Sept. 3, 1929, in Dennison, Ill., the son of Clyde and Juanita Snedeker Files.

Dick, as he was known to most, had lived in Augusta, Ga., for 39 years before moving to Lyndon.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1974. He was a pilot, flying the KC-135 Tanker. He served in Vietnam for several tours. He retired at the rank of major. After retirement he became a vo-ag and shop teacher in Augusta, Ga. He was a member of the VFW, the Military Officers Association of America, the Air Force Association, had been a sponsor of FFA, and a member of the alumni associations of the University of Illinois and the University of Southern California.

On March 31, 1956, Dick was married to Florence Conner, in Wrightstown, N.J., at McGuire Air Force Base. Florence preceded Dick in death on Oct. 10, 2013.

He is survived by his two sons, Bruce Files (Mary), of Lyndon, and Brian Files, Jacksonville, Fla.; his sister, Pat Hunter, Marshall, Ill.; and six grandchildren, Katherine, Bruce Jr., Elaine, John, Elijah and Leah.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at the Feltner Funeral Home in Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time. Burial with military honors by the United States Air Force will be in the Lyndon Cemetery.
