Harrelson to retire from ministry

Community Covenant Church, Osage City, is inviting everyone to a retirement celebration for Pastor Jim and Sue Harrelson at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 20.

Pastor Jim is retiring from the ministry after 33 years, having served churches in Colorado and Kansas. He pastored the Stotler Covenant Church for seven years and the Community Covenant Church for the last eight. During his time in Osage County, he also served on the ministerial alliance, coordinated the Warmth Fund, worked with the Ecumenical Christian Action Team and did a brief stint on the Osage City Council. Sue recently retired from Stormont Vail Hospital where she worked as a staff nurse in the senior diagnostic unit.  Both Jim and Sue are graduates of Emporia State University.

After retirement, Jim and Sue will reside in Topeka. Jim will continue teaching at Allen County Community College and playing the drums in his 1960s cover band, Chapter 2. They look forward to spending more time with their children and grandchildren: Jeremiah and his children Analise, Aaron, Miriam and Hanno, of Wisconsin, and Joshua and Pattie and their children Asher, McCarty and Ashlyn, of Georgia.

The retirement celebration will be at the Community Covenant Church, 334 N. Topeka Ave., Osage City. Cake and punch will be served.
