COF golf tournament a winning event

Hornung named as exceptional volunteer

BURLINGTON – The steering committee of the Friends of COF has announced that the third annual Friends of COF Benefit Golf Tournament held last month resulted in a net profit of nearly $15,000 for the organization.

Eighteen teams participated in the tournament held on June 6 at Rock Creek Country Club, in Burlington. Winning teams include: First place, flight A: Ryan Henningsen, Vic Mitchell, Judd Morning, and Rick Geist; first place, flight B: John Schultze, Darrel Schultze, Rusty Spencer, and Daniel Spencer; second place, flight A: Chris Bahr, Doug Mash, Skip Holman, and Jason Boley; second place, flight B: Bill Burns, Bobby Howard, Kim Giffin, and Dave White. Other winners include: Daryl Schultze, longest putt; Amy Wolfe, longest drive (women’s); John Schultze, longest drive (men’s); and Rusty Spencer, closest-to-the-pin.

The event was co-chaired by David Hornung, Ottawa, and Stacey Moddie, Burlington.

Hornung was recently honored as Friends of COF’s exceptional volunteer at this month’s regular board meeting.

Hornung has been on the Friends Steering Committee since its inception, and serves on the COF Training Services Inc. board of directors. He was recognized for his dedication and focus on the organization, having served as a board member since 1998 and a founding member of the Friends of COF.

He grew up near Spearville, Kan. and taught school in Dodge City before moving to Ottawa with his wife Gloria. They have four grown children, including William, who receives services at COF.

In a note to tournament supporters, Hornung said, “Each and every time the Friends of COF have another success story like this, I take great comfort in knowing my son’s future care is becoming a true reality. Thanks to each of you for your kind heart and helping hands!”
