Summertime treat: Enjoy some ice cream Thursday evening at senior center

073014-icecreamconeThere’s still time for everyone to plan their day around the nutrition site’s ice cream social, beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday evening, July 31, at the senior center. This is an important fundraiser for the site and all comers and donations are greatly appreciated.

Most folks may have already figured this out, but the nutrition site did have an ulterior motive when they put on the free lunch July 24 at Osage County Senior Center. They wanted to bring the lunch program and meals-on-wheels to the attention of local citizens, and hopefully boost incentive to partake in the daily lunch meals more often.

The lunch program is a very economical solution for people who should be eating at least one well-rounded meal a day. With a portion of the funding dependent on the number of folks eating at the senior center, getting just a few more citizens to come in regularly can make a huge difference. So, thank you to those who participated in the free meal, but please consider coming on a regular basis. Contact the Osage City nutrition site at 785-528-4170 for more information or reservations.

Our next evening bus trip will be Aug. 21 to Coach’s Sports Bar & Grill, in Emporia. The bus will leave at 5:45 p.m. A $3 transit donation is requested from each rider. A menu from Coach’s will be made available prior to the trip. The next rider appreciation trip is tentatively set for Aug. 28 to destinations in Lecompton. Call the senior center at 785-528-4906 for more information or to reserve a seat.
