Lyndon farmers market now on Wednesday mornings

lyndonfarmersmarketwednesdaThe Lyndon Farmers Market will now be on Wednesday mornings, starting Aug. 6, after the Lyndon City Council decided a change was needed to increase vendor and customer access.

Earlier this year, the council had scheduled the market on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month in an effort to make it more available for customers. For the last two years, the farmers market was held on Mondays on the lawn of the Osage County Courthouse, but it was thought that schedule limited access for customers.

But since the Saturday schedule was implemented, vendor turnout has been low, due in part to other farmers markets in northeast Kansas scheduled at the same time.

After conferring with several area farmers market vendors, the council has now scheduled the farmers market at 8-11 a.m. every Wednesday.

The market will still be on the courthouse lawn along the south side of the block, allowing easy access and parking for customers and vendors.

The city is offering an open invitation to all vendors of homegrown produce and handmade items. Processed foods and live plants may also be sold by vendors with proper licensing and certification.

The market will be every Wednesday morning through October.
