Lyndon sales tax defeated, USD 434 bond issue passes

USD 434 Santa Fe Trail patrons approved a a $4.6 million bond issue Tuesday on a vote of 790 yes votes to 387 no votes. The bond will be used to construct and furnish a fine arts auditorium facility, and construct a physical education facility including locker rooms, weight room, wrestling practice area, lobby and other support areas.

In the county seat, Lyndon voters defeated a half-cent sales tax proposal on a vote of 146 no votes to 91 yes votes. It was the second election in a row that voters turned down the proposed sales tax that was to be used for improving streets and bridges and providing property tax relief. In November, voters defeated the sales tax with a vote of 247-176.

The results are unofficial as announced Tuesday evening by the Osage County election office.
