Richard “Bud” Weston Foster, 88, Carbondale: Jan. 6, 1926 – Aug. 14, 2014

081614-richard-foster-obituRichard Weston “Bud” Foster, 88, Carbondale, Kan. (rural Overbrook), was born Jan. 6, 1926, near Overbrook, and passed away at Midland Hospice House, Topeka, on Aug. 14, 2014.

Bud spent his youth in the Overbrook community, graduating from Overbrook Rural High School in 1944. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946. Upon completing his service he met and married his sweetheart and wife of 65 years, Margaret “Peggy” Towle. They were united in marriage on June 4, 1949. 

Bud farmed all of his life in the Overbrook area. He was a heavy equipment operator and retired from the Kansas Department of Transportation in 1988. His interests included playing and watching sports, raising and riding horses and mules. He was known for raising quality mules. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Peggy; son, James R. Foster and his wife, Kathy, of Carbondale, and daughter, Debra M. Wallace and her husband, John, of Cary, N.C.; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Westena (Richards) Foster and his sisters, Edwina Drake and Patricia Greer Heeke.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at the Greenwood-Roberts Funeral Home, Overbrook. Funeral services will be at St. Francis Church-Lapeer on Monday, Aug. 18, with Rosary at 9:40 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Overbrook Cemetery.
