Carbondale man found dead in roadway near Overbrook

The body of a 19-year-old Carbondale man was found lying in the highway west of Overbrook early Sunday morning, and the cause of death remains unknown as of today.

After being called to the scene, deputies found the body of Timothy J. Kemble in the roadway at mile post 410 or 1/2 mile west of Paulen Road. He was later pronounced dead.

The Osage County Sheriff’s Office reported that a call came in at 5:03 a.m. Aug. 24 about a white male walking on U.S. Highway 56 approximately 2 miles west of Overbrook. A few minutes later, another caller reported a body in the road at the same location.

The cause of Kemble’s death remains undetermined Monday morning, with an autopsy scheduled for later today.

The Kansas Highway Patrol was asked to assist in the investigation at the scene, but the Osage County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the investigation into Kemble’s death.

The sheriff’s office is seeking information about the incident, and requesting anyone who was traveling in the area around 5 a.m., or anyone who had spoke with Kemble prior to 5 a.m. Sunday, to call the sheriff’s office at 785-828-3121 or 1-877-OSCRIME.

Around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, the Kansas Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert, advising that U.S. 56 had been closed to traffic from west of Overbrook to U.S. Highway 75. The highway was reopened at 10 a.m. Sunday.
