Northbound I-35 bridge repair project begins east of Emporia

Earlier this week, a repair project began on the northbound Interstate 35 bridge over the Neosho River approximately 1.5-miles east of Emporia, in Lyon County. Project work includes the replacement of the bridge expansion joints. Work will take primarily during daylight hours, Monday through Friday.

On Tuesday, traffic control was installed and northbound I-35 over the Neosho River bridge was reduced to one lane, 24/7 round the clock, throughout the project duration. Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via concrete barrier, signage, channelizers and cones. There will be a 60 mph posted speed limit and a 12-foot lane width restriction through the project work zone throughout the project duration.

Reece Construction Co., Inc., Scandia, Kan., is the primary contractor on this $82,304 bridge repair project. Overall project work is scheduled to be completed in early October 2014, weather permitting.

This project is funded by T-WORKS, the transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature in May 2010.
