Quenemo woman dies in two-car crash on Highway 268 Monday morning

A Quenemo woman was killed in a two-car accident on state Highway 268 this morning, after another vehicle crossed the center line and the vehicles collided head-on.

Dawnette Sue Hoerner, 52, Quenemo, died in the accident that happened on K-268 approximately .2 mile east of state Highway 368 about 7:19 a.m. Monday morning.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that a 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by Bradley John Ruppert, 34, Garnett, was traveling eastbound on K-268 when it crossed the center line and collided with the westbound 2002 Toyota Camry driven by Hoerner.

KHP reported Ruppert was injured in the accident; he was transported to KU Medical Center, Kansas City, by helicopter ambulance. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

The Kansas Department of Transportation issued a notice at 8:30 a.m. that K-268 was closed for one mile at the accident scene; at 3:13 p.m. KDOT reported the incident had been cleared.
