Fatality accident closes U.S. 75 Wednesday morning

A two-car accident closed U.S. Highway 75 for about four hours Wednesday morning. The Kansas Highway Patrol confirmed that someone was killed in the accident, but the identity of the victim had not been released as of this evening.

According to the KHP, the accident occurred at 6:44 a.m., about .1 mile north of the U.S. 75 and Highway 31/Highway 268 junction, or about 1.5 miles north of Lyndon. The intersection is currently a highway work zone with the ongoing construction of a traffic roundabout.

KHP reports one vehicle was northbound on U.S. 75 as another vehicle was southbound. The northbound vehicle began to fishtail and traveled into the path of oncoming traffic, when it was struck on the passenger side by the southbound vehicle.

The Kansas Department of Transportation reported the highway was closed at 7 a.m. and reopened at 11 a.m.
