Harold C. Brecheisen, 86, Vassar: March 8, 1928 – Sept. 28, 2014

VASSAR – Harold C. Brecheisen, 86, passed away on Sept. 28, 2014, at Osage Nursing Center, in Osage City, Kan. He was born on March 8, 1928, on the family farm south of Vassar, the son of Vivian and Verna Redenbaugh Brecheisen.

Harold grew up on the family farm with nine siblings, expecting to farm the rest of his life. He lived in Osage City, New Mexico and Sierra Vista, Ariz., then returned to Osage City.

He graduated from Kansas State University with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1957, and became a veterinary inspector in the Sioux City, Iowa, stockyards. In 1960, he started his own practice in Osage City, selling it in 1967 due to health reasons. He was a real estate agent from 1975 to 1979 in Osage City. He was a member of the Vassar United Methodist Church and the American Veterinary Medical Association.

On Jan. 1, 1952, Harold was married to Nancy Monfort, in Osage City. They divorced in 2008.

Harold was preceded in death by a son, Dale Brecheisen, in 1985; his parents, Vivian and Verna; three brothers, Danny, Leonard and Glen; four sisters Mabel Athon, Esther Johnson, Dorothy Lewis, and an infant sister, Wilma.

He is survived by four children, Harold Brecheisen Jr., of Laramie, Wyo., Ronald (Karen) Brecheisen, Greeley, Colo., Margaret (Jim) Clay of Laramie, Wyo., and David (Dina) Brecheisen of Ft. Collins, Colo.; two brothers, Wallace Brecheisen of Elephant Butte, N.M., and Larry Brecheisen of Conroe, Texas; a sister, Mildred McCreight, Lyndon;  and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 2, at Feltner Funeral Chapel, in Lyndon. The family will receive friends 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Vassar Cemetery.
