All signs say seasons are changing; Lyndon celebrates arrival of fall

100114-lyndon-fall-festA slight chill in the night air, sunset comes sooner every day, leaves on trees are beginning to turn colors – all indications that autumn is here. But another more noticeable reason to think the seasons are changing: Lyndon’s having its annual all-day fall festival this Saturday and fun is planned for everyone.

The day begins with a hearty breakfast at the Lyndon United Methodist Church, and winds up with a street dance and live music performed by the Marc Houser Band, with plenty to do in downtown Lyndon in between.

Here’s the latest schedule to help you plan your fun fall day in Lyndon on Saturday:

  • 7 a.m.-10 a.m. Pancake feed – Lyndon United Methodist Church – hot cakes, eggs, sausage juice, coffee and more.
  • 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Craft fair – Tons of vendors. Don’t miss it.
  • 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Bounce house – Come over and bounce in the Tiger’s belly.
  • 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Touch a truck – Every kid’s dream fireman for a day. Touch the buttons, climb the truck and put out the fire.
  • 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Pumpkin painting – Show off your painting skills.
  • 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. City of Lyndon – Pick up your free copy of the new city of Lyndon directory that’s full of great information. Meet Betty Thompson, city administrator. Have a piece of cherry cobbler while it lasts.
  • 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Student art show – Fall inspired works by Lyndon students.
  • 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Children’s crafts – Free crafts for the kids.
  • 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Glitter tattoos – Get your glitter on. Lots of styles for girls and boys.
  • 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Silent auction – Plenty of great things to bid on. Auction ends at 5 p.m.
  • 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. Coins in the corn game – $100 cash in each round is up for grabs. Bonkers passes and many other great prizes too. Winner every time.
  • 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Food court – BBQ, turkey legs, hotdogs, kettle corn, caramel apples, funnel cakes and more. Different food vendors throughout the day/. Try them all.
  • 12 p.m.-2 p.m. Candyland – Take a walk on the sweet side. Land on the right number and get a sweet treat.
  • 12 -5 p.m. Kids games
  • 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Wagon rides – It just wouldn’t be a fall without a family wagon ride.
  • 1 p.m.-3 p.m. – Kansas City Chiefs cheerleaders  Get an autograph or your picture taken with our own Kansas City Chiefs Cheerleaders.
  • 2:45 p.m. Dance performance – See a performance from the Dance Spot.
  • 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Beer garden – Sponsored by American Legion Post 125. Beer and wine available. All alcohol must be consumed within the fenced in area.
  • 3 p.m.-6 p.m. Street dance – Live music by the Marc Houser Band. Classic rock, oldies rock, and country. No cover. Bring your lawn chairs.

During Lyndon’s Fall Fest last year, two Kansas City Chiefs cheerleaders posed for photos with downtown visitors; here with the 2013 Lyndon Middle School cheerleaders, who also performed a school cheer for the professional cheerleaders.
