Earl Ross, 83, Osage City: July 12, 1931 – Oct. 1, 2014

OSAGE CITY – Earl D. Ross, 83, of Osage City, passed away Oct. 1, 2014, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka.

Earl Duane Ross was born July 12, 1931, in rural Harveyville, the son of Edman and Evelyn (Wetzel) Ross. He graduated from Harveyville High School. He served in the United States Army, serving in the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955 as a medic.    

Earl was joined in marriage to Ruth Morris on Jan. 21, 1956, and later divorced.

Earl spent his early years in rural Harveyville then moved to San Jose, Calif., for about 10 years, and then returned back to Harveyville and worked on the farm. He worked at Goodyear in Topeka for a short period, and then began working at Kansas Department of Transportation, in Osage City. He later transferred to KDOT in Topeka as an engineer technician. He retired in 1992 after 36 years at KDOT.

He is survived by a daughter, Sherril (Terry) Criqui, Osage City; a son, Gregg Ross, Osage City; two grandchildren, Derrick (Jolene) Gragg and Damon Gragg; and a great grandson, Easton Gragg.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dean Ross.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 7, at VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, in Osage City. He will lie in state, 4-7 p.m. Monday, with family receiving friends 6-7 p.m. at VanArsdale Funeral Chapel.

Military burial honors will follow the service at Burlingame Cemetery.
