Last call for senior spelling bee contestants

093014-spellingbeecupThis is a last minute call for senior spellers for the fifth annual Senior Spelling Bee at the Osage County Senior Center, 604 Market St., Osage City, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9. There is a $1 registration fee, and competitors must be 55 years old or older. We have a study guide that can be reviewed up to an hour before the bee.

The local Area Agency on Aging will be providing information on this year’s Medicare Part D enrollment process here at the center at 1 p.m. Oct. 16. This is very important for those already in the program and those getting ready to start. Updating and checking all options for prescription insurance can save consumers money and heartache. Plus, there will be live entertainment during the program, with songs and personality provided by Nicole Majors.

Other activities include ECKAN providing insurance information to the public 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 14, at the center. And, the Osage County Sheriff’s Office will be offering the federal “Drug Take Back” program at the center from mid-morning to mid-afternoon Oct. 15.

The Osage County General Public Transportation trip to Smoked Creations BBQ, in Ottawa, on Oct. 29 is full, but we will soon have a signup list out for our Saturday day trip tentatively scheduled for Nov. 1. Stop by or call the senior center at 785-528-4906 for more details.

Also in November, the senior center will have a massive book, puzzles, and craft sale, to raise funds for activities and the nutrition site. Watch the senior center news for more information.
