Overbrook American Legion delivers canteen gifts, camaraderie to Topeka VA residents

100814-overbrook-am-legion-Last month, three members of the Overbrook American Legion Post 239 visited residents of the Topeka VA Hospital, Building No. 6.

Retired Air Force Brigadier General Deborah Rose, retired Air Force Colonel Joe Rose, and former Marine Corporal Don Schultz were guests of Virginia Cochran, recreational therapist at the building, where they met with the 25 veterans who reside there. The Overbrook post members also handed out canteen coupon books to each veteran, and left extras with Cochran to use later as game prizes. In all, the post purchased 80 canteen coupon books to be given as gifts to resident veterans.

The veterans expressed their appreciation for the coupons and enjoyed the visit from other former military members.

Schultz, who is mayor of Overbrook, provided this photo of the Building 6 resident veterans, with General Rose on the left, Cochran center, and Colonel Rose right.

Information and photo thanks to Don Schultz.
