Help House offers free budgeting course through heating assistance program

Help House, at Lyndon, will have limited funds this winter for heating assistance for natural gas, electric heat, propane or wood heat. Anyone who struggles with paying heating bills and feels they may have a need to apply for Help House’s one-time heating assistance must complete an upcoming budgeting course to be eligible. The Good Sense Budget Course will be presented through Help House on Monday, Nov. 3.

There will be two opportunities to participate in the class. The first will be 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., and the other will be an evening class 6:30-8 p.m. to accommodate working couples or individuals. The class is divided into two sessions. The second half will be Monday, Nov. 17, at the same class times. The entire course must be completed to be eligible for consideration of assistance.

For anyone who attends the Money Matters classes at the Osage County Senior Center on Tuesday, Oct. 21,and/or Tuesday, Oct. 28, Help House will accept proof of completion as the prerequisite for the heating assistance application.

To take the Good Sense Budget Course through Help House, preregistration is required along with pre-course work to be filled out and brought to the first class. For more information, call Pam Bilyeu at Help House, 785-828-4888. Registration deadline is Oct. 28.

The budgeting class is easy to understand, free and open to the public. Anyone interested can take the class; application for heating assistance is not required.
