Freeze warning tonight, Saturday morning: Bring in plants, turn on the heater

103114-DOG-COLD-01Osage County is included in an area that is under a freeze warning until 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1. The National Weather Service issued freeze warning will be in effect at 9 p.m. today, and includes Osage, Nemaha, Brown, Clay, Riley, Pottawatomie, Jackson, Jefferson, Ottawa, Dickinson, Geary, Morris, Wabaunsee, Shawnee, Douglas, Lyon, Franklin, Coffey and Anderson counties.

Temperatures are expected to fall below freezing tonight and continue through early Saturday morning, with low temperatures in the lower to middle 20s.

A hard freeze is expected across all of northeast Kansas. The cold temperatures could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. Those with agricultural interests in the watch area are advised to harvest or protect tender vegetation. Also, potted plants normally left outdoors should be covered or brought inside away from the cold.

A freeze warning means hazardous freezing conditions are imminent or highly likely.
