2014 Election: High voter turnout in Osage County

Osage County election officer and county clerk Rhonda Beets reported a 57 percent turnout of the county’s registered voters for Tuesday’s general election. The Republican-leaning county voted strictly along party lines, with Ronald E. Mathe as Junction Township clerk, being the lone Democrat approved by county voters.

In judge elections, if it had been left up to Osage County voters, two Kansas Supreme Court Justices would not have retained their positions along with three appeals court judges. The county voted to retain Fourth Judicial District Judge Phillip Fromme.

Melvern voters soundly approved a one percent city sales tax with a vote of 75 to 36.

The Osage County Clerk’s office reported the election ran smoothly in Osage County, with 5,925 of the county’s 10,392 registered voters casting ballots. The office reported that 162 provisional ballots were accepted, and will be counted when county commissioners canvass the election.

State election results were still being updated as these Osage County results were posted.
