Claron Ray Yates, 58, Garnett: July 15, 1956 – Nov. 13, 2014

Claron Ray Yates, 58, Garnett, Kan., passed away Nov. 13, 2014. He was born to John H. and Murriell Walter Yates on July 15, 1956, at Garnett.

He grew up in the Greely area and graduated from Garnett High School. He then moved to Houston, Texas, taking a job with Exxon Mobile. He later worked in law enforcement in Garnett and Osage City. He recently retired from USD 434 Santa Fe Trail after 16 years of service.

He was a quiet and gentle soul who loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid marksman. His passion for firearms took him and his friends to gun shows far and wide. He truly believed everyone should know how to handle a firearm properly. He enjoyed family, friends and telling stories of his life.

Claron was preceded in death by his father, John Harden Yates, mother, Murriell Yates-Wilson, and brother David Lee Yates.

He is survived by his sister, Jane Danner and husband Gary, nephew Mike Katzer and wife Melissa, niece Monica Katzer, sister-in-law Barbara Yates, niece Tracy Schneider and husband Todd and their four children, Blaise, Aidan, Giavona, and Celeste, and stepfather Earl Wilson.

A funeral service was scheduled for 11 a.m. Nov. 17, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. Burial will be in the Garnett Cemetery.
