It’s “A Silver Bells Christmas” as Burlingame celebrates 25th annual Country Christmas

112414-burlingme-country-chIt’s the silver anniversary for a Burlingame holiday tradition that has filled a generation of the town’s residents with Christmas spirit. The 25th Annual Country Christmas, “A Silver Bells Christmas”, will be Saturday, December 6, 2014, with lighting the community Christmas tree on Santa Fe Avenue in downtown Burlingame as an evening finale.

While lighting the tree during the nighttime lighted parade will have the town ringing with holiday cheer, the day will be filled with activities and everyone in Burlingame and all of its neighbors are invited.

Santa Claus

Of course the kids won’t want to miss a chance to have a personal conversation with Santa Claus and 10 a.m. to noon he will be at the Harvest Ballroom, 107 N. Topeka Ave., for visits and photos. Santa’s Workshop, with crafts for children of all ages, will also be at the Harvest Ballroom at the same time.

Craft Fair

Burlingame will also host a craft fair during the day, 10 am. to 5:30 p.m. at the Schuyler Community Center, including a lunch counter offered by area Girl Scouts 8:30 a.m. -2 p.m., serving breakfast burritos, hot dogs, sloppy Joes, and baked potatoes.

Festival of Trees

Next door at the Schuyler Museum will be the Festival of Trees. Visitors are invited to come view these delightfully decorated trees and vote for their favorite.

Vendor Fair

Along with the craft fair will also be a Vendor Fair, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the former bus barn on Santa Fe Avenue.

Basket Silent Auction

A Basket Silent Auction will also be at the bus barn, with final bids taken at 3:30 p.m. All bidders are invited to bid early for their favorite holiday basket.

Holiday Home Tour

At 11 a.m., the Holiday Home Tour begins, and runs until 2 p.m. Four area homes decorated for the holidays are featured on the tour, with tickets and information available at the Schuyler Museum or each home on the tour. For more information, see Holiday Home Tour story.

Cookie and Book Sale, Holiday Storytime

The Burlingame Community Library is also celebrating Country Christmas, with its annual Cookie and Book Sale. The book sale starts on Thursday, Dec. 4, with its final day on Dec. 6 with bargain gifts for everyone in the family. The Country Christmas Cookie and Book Sale begins at 10 a.m. and lasts throughout the day or until sold out. Storytime begins at 4 p.m.; all are invited to listen to the holiday stories.

Chili Supper

To warm everyone up before the parade, a Chili Supper sponsored by the Friday Afternoon Club begins at 4 p.m. at the Lions Club Building.

Wine Tasting

Other refreshments offered during the day include a Wine Tasting  1-4 p.m., at Grizley Liquor, with representatives of St. James Winery, St. James, Mo., on hand to answer questions and serve samples.

Tumbling Performance

As the town readies for the nighttime parade, Miss Jandi’s School of Dance will provide downtown entertainment at the community Christmas, giving a tumbling performance.

5K Christmas Jingle

Along about dusk but before the Parade of Lights will be the 5K Christmas Jingle at 6 p.m. Registration for the run/walk begins at noon and line up begins at 5:40 p.m. at the Burlingame High School track.

Parade of Lights

And as has become a community tradition after 25 years, the day’s finale is the Parade of Lights and lighting of the community Christmas tree, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The parade will feature Burlingame’s 2014 Country Christmas Couple Bill and Mitzi Patterson. Line up for the parade begins at 5:30 p.m. at the school parking lot for judging. Everyone is invited to park along Santa Fe Avenue or bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the parade.
