Community plans ‘Christmas in Carbondale’ celebration

112814-CHRISTMAS-TREE-46“Christmas in Carbondale” will be Sunday, Dec. 7, with many activities planned for the day. The day begins with a business and craft fair in the ELM Community Building from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those interested in being a vendor should contact Mary Burgett at 785-836-7887.

Also in the ELM Building, the Carbondale Girl Scouts are sponsoring a chili lunch fundraiser from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Horse rides for donations to benefit equine rescue will begin at 12 p.m. outside the ELM Building.

Friends of Carbondale City Library will host a variety of activities in Carbondale City Hall beginning at 1 p.m. Santa will arrive with letter-writing helpers by students in the FBLA, KAY, and LEO clubs from Santa Fe Trail High School.

There will be mini-train rides available 3-4:30 p.m. when the community will gather for caroling at the community Christmas tree. Carols will be led by Santa Fe Trail High School Choraliers with additional musical entertainment by the Santa Fe Trail High School Band.

At 5 p.m., Santa will kick off the Christmas parade route down Main Street. Staging for parade participants will begin at 4 p.m. at Fourth and Main streets in the UCC parking area. Contact Talisha and Ashton Trapaghan with parade questions at 785-969-7181.

Be sure to bring your camera for picture opportunities with Santa and elves in downtown Carbondale, shop a huge variety of local craft, food and business vendors at the business and craft fair, have lunch and enjoy the festivities of the day at Christmas in Carbondale.
