Winter officially begins Saturday at Lyndon

Winter doesn’t officially begin for three more weeks, but while cold weather is one indication that fall is almost over, another sign is that Lyndon is hosting its Winter Festival this Saturday, Dec. 6.

The annual celebration is highlighted by a holiday parade with cash prizes for seven categories of entries, and featuring the season’s most popular celebrity, Santa Claus, who will also visit with good kids at Lyndon High School after the parade. The parade begins at 10:30 a.m.; Santa will visit kids 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Early risers can fill up before heading out for the third annual Winter Festival 5k Walk-Run, which begins at 8:30 a.m. at the high school. Preregistration is encouraged to guarantee a shirt, but donations and registration fees are welcomed the day of the run. Proceeds will be donated in honor of Brody Johnston. Call Lyndon City Hall for more information at 785-828-3146.

Doors will open for the always popular holiday craft fair at 9 a.m. at the high school gymnasium, allowing shoppers until 2 p.m. to find those perfect, one-of-a-kind gifts offered by local craftsmen and vendors. The annual craft fair is sponsored by the Lyndon Endowment Association.

Santa will pose for photos at the high school after the parade at about 11 a.m., which is the same time the Lyndon Masons will open their taco bar in the school cafeteria; tacos and cinnamon rolls will be the entrees.
