Help House: New toy drive continues

120114-santawgiftPlanning for Christmas shopping, the Help House Christmas shop will be open on Saturday, Dec. 6, during regular hours 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for children of families registered at Help House to “shop” for their parents. Gifts will be gift wrapped and marked for them. Then the parents may “shop” for their children during the week of Dec. 15 during regular hours. Anyone who would like to donate a new toy for Christmas should watch for collection boxes at area merchants and some of the churches, or just drop them by Help House. All donations for children must be received at Help House before Dec. 13. All gift items are free and available to those registered and receiving services.

Porcelain doll raffle

Three beautiful fine porcelain dolls have been donated to be raffled off, with proceeds going to Help House. Two of the dolls are from the Franklin Heirloom Gibson Girl Collection. “Kristina”, the first in the series, is 21inches tall. The second is the “Christmas Angel” with a 24 ct gold Halo, standing 16 inches tall. The third doll is a Lenox fine porcelain doll. She is “Clara” from the Nutcracker, standing 16 inches.

Tickets may be purchased at Help House and the drawing will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 20. Winners need not be present to win. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. The dolls will be on display at Help House.

Utility assistance

Families or individuals that are residents of Osage County and feel they may need assistance with heating costs this winter should contact Help House; this will include electric, gas, propane or wood heat. There will be limited assistance available for those registered with Help House and who have completed the Good Sense Budget Course prior to application. The funds will be awarded according to Help House utility assistance program guidelines. There is pre-course work that must be picked up, completed and brought to the first class. The classes are held in two three-hour sessions. The next class (second half) will be 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 8. Classes will be offered once a month through January or February as needed.
