Leona Burgess, 83, Scranton: Jan. 14, 1931 – Dec. 25, 2014

TOPEKA – Leona Burgess, 83, passed away Dec. 25, 2014, at Aldersgate Village, in Topeka. She was born in Topeka on Jan. 14, 1931, the daughter of William and Barbara (Kuykendall) Massey.

She was a 1949 graduate of Seaman High School. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Brookside Manor, in Overbrook, for many years. She was a great fan of Patsy Cline.

Leona was married to Robert Burgess in 1952, in Topeka. Leona and Robert moved to Lawrence for a few years before moving to Scranton more than 55 years ago.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Robert, of the home; four daughters, Nancy Morgan, Patty Canuck, Judy Mundy, Cathy Burgess; two brothers, Herb and Fred Massey; sister, Alice McMaster; and 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A visitation is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at the Feltner Funeral Chapel.
