Conservation district names winners of student limerick, poster and essay contest

Each year the Osage County Conservation District sponsors a poster, essay and limerick contest. Information is given to the schools in late September.  Entries are due before Christmas break. The theme each year is determined by the National Association of Conservation Districts. This year’s theme was “Local Heroes – Your Hardworking Pollinators”. A total of 353 entries were received.

This year’s winners are:

Limericks: Isabella Melgren, purple; Mila Little, blue; William Martin, red; Rylea Hon, white. All limerick winners are in fifth grade at Osage City Elementary School.

Essays: Jerra Butterfield, purple; Tanner Theel, blue; Jayce Brenner, red; Kassandra Hamblin, white. All essay winners are Osage City Elementary School fifth-graders.

Posters, fourth, fifth and sixth grade: Pearl Rowe, purple, Osage City; Bryce Linebarger, blue, Osage City; Jerra Butterfield, red, Osage City; KayLee Butcher, white, Osage City.

Posters, second and third grade: Sierra Irvin, purple, Osage City; Gracy Smith, blue, Osage City; Sydney Mattison, red, Osage City; Emma Marsh, white, Marais des Cygnes Valley Elementary School.

Posters, kindergarten and first grade: Annabelle Potratz, purple; Westyn Zirkle, blue; Lottie Clark, red; Carter Gibson, white.  All winners are in kindergarten at Burlingame Elementary School.

The top winner in each division is sent to the state competition. The state competition is held in the fall.

The conservation district also congratulates Noah Pitman, Osage City, for honorable mention on his limerick at the state competition.

The conservation district appreciates the teachers and students taking time to enter the contest, and congratulates all of the winners.

The limerick, essay and poster winners will be recognized at the conservation district annual meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Osage City School lunchroom.
