Ben F. Winans, 80, Overbrook: Aug. 9, 1934 – Jan. 25, 2015

OVERBROOK – Ben F. Winans, 80, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, near Osage City. He was born on Aug. 9, 1934, in Topeka, Kan., the son of Frank and Helen Hallowell Winans.

Ben was raised and lived around Scranton before moving south of Overbrook in 1965.

He had been a farmer and stockman for many years, and had been a rural mail carrier out of Scranton since 1986. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve for several years.

On Dec. 27, 1964, Ben was married to Nadine Conder, in South Coffeyville, Okla.

He was preceded in death by Nadine on July 5, 2012, and by his parents.

Ben is survived by four brothers, Brock Winans, Williamstown, N.J., Carl Winans, Scranton, Donald Winans, Phoenix, Ariz., and Raymond Winans, Olathe; two sisters, Madge Freeman, Anderson, Ind., and Rachel Winans, McPherson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Ben will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, at the Feltner Funeral Chapel, in Lyndon. Burial will be in the Valley Brook Cemetery, south of Overbrook.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
