Osage County Silver Haired Legislature election to be held March 12

OTTAWA – Two Osage County representatives have stepped up to run in the election for the Kansas Silver Haired Legislature. Patricia Armstrong and Stephen Haller Sr., both from Osage City, are the county’s candidates for 2015.

The election will be 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Thursday, March 12, with polling locations at the Osage County nutrition sites in Burlingame and Osage City.

Diana Berry, the county’s current Silver Haired legislator, did not seek re-election.

The Kansas Silver Haired Legislature is a unicameral legislature composed of 125 representatives. All are older than 60 and are elected from their county of residence. Wyandotte, Johnson, Shawnee and Sedgwick counties have five additional delegates. The legislature provides an educational experience in the political process, and provides opportunity to identify priority concerns of Kansas senior citizens. The Silver Haired Legislature develops bills and resolutions, which are presented to the Kansas Legislature and the governor as recommendations for state policy.
