Christopher Sluder, 50, Bottineau, N.D.: Oct. 30, 1964 – March 24, 2015

Sluder,CBOTTINEAU, N.D – Christopher Sluder, 50, of Bottineau, N.D., passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, near Souris, N.D. The son of Carl and Phyllis (Rusk) Sluder, he was born on Oct. 30, 1964, at Lawrence, Kan.

He was reared and educated in Melvern, Kan. Chris graduated from high school and attended college at Kansas State University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in agriculture economics. 

On July 30, 1988, he was married to Beth Votapka, at Oberlin, Kan. After their marriage he began working in the swine industry. Chris was employed by Monsanto, Smithfield and AMVC Management. His work made it possible to live in the Midwest, residing in Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Colorado. In September 2014 they moved to Bottineau and he began working at Turtle Mountain Pork, near Souris.

He enjoyed learning about American history, Biblical history, his own ancestry and talking about politics. Chris embraced his Christian belief and was a Lay Minister.

He is survived by his wife Beth, of Bottineau; a son, Matthew Sluder and his wife, Claire, of Joplin, Mo.; daughter, Kelly Sluder, of Bottineau; parents, Carl and Phyllis Sluder, of Kansas;  brothers, John Sluder, of Texas, and Paul and Pam Sluder, of Kansas, and several nieces and nephews.

Chris was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Dale Votapka.

A memorial service was held Saturday, March 28, at United Parish, in Bottineau. Cremation has taken place. Officiating at the service was  Reverend Deborah Burger-Peery. Leann Bremner was the organist, and Leo Jostad was the soloist. Honorary casket bearers were Adam Sluder, Matt Sluder, Leon Sluder, John Sluder and Paul Sluder.

A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at the Feltner Funeral Chapel, in Lyndon. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
