Robert “Bob” Dean Sisson, 66, Overbrook: Jan. 7, 1949 – April 2, 2015

OVERBROOK – Robert “Bob” Dean Sisson, 66, died Thursday, April 2, 2015. He was born Jan. 7, 1949, in Herington, Kan., to Robert “Guy” Sisson and Berniece (McDiffett) Sisson.

Bob was raised primarily in Richland, Kan., along with his sisters Brenda and Beverly and his brothers Ben and Bruce. He graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in 1967. After graduating, he served his country in the Vietnam War.

Bob married Teresa “Beth” (Clark) Sisson on Feb. 20, 1971, at the United Methodist Church in Overbrook. Together they had two children, a son, Jared Dean, and a daughter, Brandi Nichol.

Bob was a member of the Kansas Air National Guard and later served as the Overbrook city maintenance supervisor until his retirement. He lived in Overbrook for most of his life and served for several years as a member of the Overbrook City Council. He was also a member of Overbrook’s American Legion Post 239.

With his brother Bruce he opened two successful restaurants in Osage County during the 1990s – Southside Restaurant in Carbondale, and Reunion Pizza in Overbrook.

In his youth, Bob loved to attend teen dances in the community and ride his Harley motorcycle. Other hobbies included fishing, barbecuing, trying his luck at area casinos, and playing cards with the other members of the card club he and Beth were part of for many years.

Bob is survived by his mother-in-law, Celeste (Thurber) Clark, Overbrook; son, Jared and his wife, Rachel, and grandchildren, Easton, Jordyn and Jayde, all of Wakarusa; daughter, Brandi and grandchildren, Brady and Brooke Kuermaier, all of Overbrook; brother, Ben L. Sisson and wife, Diana, Carbondale; sister Brenda G. Gentry and husband, Tim, Scranton; sister, Beverly S. and husband, Bob Ireland, Overbrook; brother Bruce W., Overbrook; brother-in-law, Randy R. Clark and his wife, Nancy, Salina; sister-in-law, Melody “Susie” Parcell and her husband, Kent, Yuma, Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beth, his parents, Guy and Berniece Sisson, and his father-in-law, Robert “Bob” Clark.

Family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to the service hour, Wednesday, April 8, at Grace Community Church, Overbrook. Funeral services will be immediately following the visitation at 10:30 a.m., at the church. Burial will follow at Overbrook Cemetery.
