Clyde Edward Martin, 70, Overbrook: March 4, 1945 – April 6, 2015

040715-martin-web-photoOVERBROOK – Clyde Edward Martin, 70, of Overbrook, Kan., passed away Monday, April 6, 2015, at Brookside Manor, Overbrook. Clyde was born March 4, 1945, in Ottawa, Kan., to George Ellis Martin and Evelyn Nadine (Chambers) Martin.

He moved with his family as a child from Franklin County to Overbrook where he graduated from Overbrook High School with the class of 1963. Clyde moved from Overbrook to Monte Vista, Colo., in 1979 before moving back to Overbrook in 1987.

Clyde was a very talented, hardworking man. He grew up as part of the family business, EL-Mar Brown Swiss Farms. Later he ran his own roofing and carpentry business in the Overbrook area.  

He served his country in the Kansas National Guard from 1964 to 1979. His service to his community continued as he was an active member of Osage County Fire District No. 4 volunteer fire department for many years, serving later as a board member of the fire district.

Clyde married Patricia Braswell in 1967, later divorcing. He then married Cheryl Stewart in 1987. They also later divorced.

Clyde is survived by four children, Spence Edward Martin and his companion, Jessie Davis, of Overbrook, Loretta Martin, Harrisburg, Pa., Isabeau Marie Stewart-Martin and her companion, Shawn Wright, Kansas City, Kan., Benjamin Navarre Stewart-Martin, Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Sue Marie Martin, Overbrook, Cheri Harmison and her husband, Ed, Overbrook; sister-in-law Carolyn Martin, Overbrook; and a grandson, Justin Cordell Davis, Overbrook.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Don Martin.

Family will greet friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at Overbrook United Methodist Church, Overbrook. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 10, at the church. Burial will follow at Overbrook Cemetery.
