Osage County Ag Wire: County committee links USDA to local ag community

Osage County USDA will be hosting a county committee election informational meeting at 8 a.m. June 11, at the USDA Service Center, in Lyndon.

County committee members are an important component of the operations of Farm Service Agency, and provide a link between the agricultural community and USDA. Farmers and ranchers elected to county committees help deliver FSA programs at the local level, applying their knowledge and judgment to make decisions on commodity price support programs, conservation programs, incentive indemnity and disaster programs for some commodities, emergency programs and eligibility. FSA committees operate within official regulations designed to carry out federal laws.

The election of agricultural producers to FSA county committees is important to all farmers and ranchers. It is crucial that every eligible producer participate in these elections. FSA county committees operate within official regulations designed to carry out federal laws. County committee members apply their judgment and knowledge to make local decisions.

The county committee nomination period runs June 15 through Aug. 3, 2015. Local Administrative Area (LAA) No. 2, the northwest portion of Osage County, will be the election area for 2015.
