Fishing kids must get up early for Saturday’s derby at Pomona State Park

060214-kid-with-wormsFriends of Pomona State Park are inviting all children and teens under 15 years old to the annual kids fishing derby, to be held 8:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at the park. Parents and grandparents are invited to help the young fishermen and watch the derby, which is based at boat ramp No. 2.

This event qualifies for the Kansas Wildlifer Challenge of “wet a line”, so Wildlifer participants should bring a camera.

Parents won’t be left out, though, as this weekend is also a free fishing weekend across the state, and anglers of all ages can enjoy a full weekend of free fishing June 6-7 on any Kansas waters. Although entry to Pomona State Park requires a vehicle permit, no fishing license is required of anglers during the two-day period.

The kids fishing derby is sponsored by Friends of Pomona State Park.
