Gene Tevis, 61, Scranton: Oct. 10, 1953 – June 12, 2015

SCRANTON – Gene “Toad” Tevis, 61, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2015, in Topeka, Kan. He was born on Oct. 10, 1953, in El Paso, Texas, the son of Lee and Ira Taylor Tevis.

Gene had lived in Burlingame before moving to Scranton in 1990.

He graduated from Lyndon High School in 1971, and served in the United States Navy from 1974 to 1976. He had worked as a carpenter for many years and had worked for Fieldstone Fruit Farm, near Overbrook, for the last 15 years. He attended the Carbondale Christian Church and was a member of the Boozefighters Motorcycle Club.

Gene was married to Vicki Hitt, they later divorced. He was married to Kristine Adams, they later divorced. He lived with Phyllis Haid and considered her kids his own.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Ira, and by a sister, Nancy Abel.

He is survived by three sons, Shaun (Sara) Tevis, of Admire, Bradley (Angela) Tevis, Longmont, Colo., and Chris (Courtney) Hartzell, Auburn; three daughters, Melissa Tevis, Osage City, Carey (Kelly) Jordan, Topeka, and Sonya Whitmore, Burlingame; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Jimmie Tevis, Scranton, and Bruce Tevis, Lyndon; a sister, Linda Tevis Osborn, Carbondale; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 21, at the Mt. Pleasant Community Church, southeast of Lyndon. Burial with Navy honors will be at the Melvern Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon.
