Extension district schedules summer cooking camps for kids

Frontier Extension District is sponsoring a series of children’s cooking classes for youth ages third grade through fifth grade this summer. A class fee of $10 will be charged per child to cover costs of food supplies. Special arrangements can be made for children who receive free and reduced lunches during the school year. All classes will be held at the Frontier Extension District’s Lyndon Office. Extension summer youth cooking camps allow children to learn to cook with spills and not get into trouble.

Class registration forms are on the Frontier Extension District web page www.frontierdistrict.k-state.edu under Health and Nutrition, Kids Summer Cooking Camps. Signed registration forms for all classes need to be emailed before classes start to [email protected] or mailed to Frontier District Extension – Garnett Office, 411 South Oak, Garnett, KS 66032. For more information about the classes, call 785-448-6826.

Oodles of Noodles is hands on class where children will learn to make homemade noodles and a variety of other pasta dishes. Class dates are: 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. July 14-16; or 1-3:30 p.m. July 14-16. Children will have their own Oodles of Noodles cookbook so they can make class recipes at home.

Yeast bread baking summer camp will be 9:30 a.m.-noon July 21-23. Youth will make a variety of yeast breads and learn that making homemade bread is easy and fun to do. A few of the recipes include Peanut Butter Nut Bread, Holiday Cheese Bread, pretzels, and Pizza Pillows.
