Dennis L. Freed, 71, Netawaka: Aug. 22, 1943 – July 28, 2015

TOPEKA – Dennis L. Freed, 71, of Netawaka, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2015, in Topeka. He was born Aug. 22, 1943, in Bellville, Kan., the son of Norman Freed and Roberta Mitchell Freed.

He graduated from Topeka High School. He married Jean Driscoll on March 17, 1995, in Topeka.

He worked as a mechanical estimator for Universal Mechanical and Electrical Inc., in Topeka. He owned and operated Midwest Sheet Metal for a while. He was a member of the Local Sheet Metal Workers No. 2 in Topeka. Dennis was an avid KU, Royals and Chiefs fan. 

He is survived by his wife, Jean, of more than 20 years; five sons, Timothy (Jerri) Freed, Topeka, Thomas (Cindie) Freed, Dana Point, Calif., Patrick (Lara) Freed, Seattle, Wash., Phil (Candice) Wainwright, Dover, Kans., and Keith (Maureen) Wainwright, Melvern, Kan.; two brothers, Teri and Charles Freed, Topeka; a sister, Diana Martin, Topeka; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and his dog, Molly.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at the Davidson Funeral Home. He will lie in state 1-8 p.m. Friday, with visitation from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka. Interment will be at the Rochester Cemetery.
