Robert W. Bardsley Sr., 73, Scranton: Dec. 17, 1941 – Aug. 10, 2015

SCRANTON – Robert W. Bardsley Sr., 73, passed away on Monday, Aug. 10, 2015, at the Midland Hospice House, in Topeka. He was born on Dec. 17, 1941, in Topeka, the son of George and Margaret Elliott Bardsley.

Bob grew up in Topeka, attending Rice Elementary and Highland Park High School. He moved to Scranton in 1967, where he lived ever since.

Bob was an equipment operator for the Osage County Road Department and the Shawnee County Public Works. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1967 with the 552nd Military Police command in Vietnam. He was a member of the VFW Post 2709 at Scranton, the American Legion Post 38 in Burlington, and the Teamsters Union Local 696. Bob was involved in auto racing at Shawnee Speedway, Topeka Raceway, Heartland Park and at the fairgrounds.  After racing he became a flagman for several years. He was a golfer and avid softball player and played in the Senior Olympics in Topeka and Iowa.

On October 13, 1962, Bob was married to Peggy Truelove, in Topeka.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, George Bardsley.

He is survived by his wife, Peg, of the home; son, Robert Bardsley Jr. and wife, Julie, of Scranton; mother, Margaret, of Overbrook; brother, George Bardsley and wife, Crystal, Topeka; sister, Bev Peaslee and husband, Bill, Topeka; a grandchild, Jordan Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Oakland United Methodist Church, 801 N.E. Chester Ave., Topeka. The graveside committal will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Scranton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon.
