Emporia foundation accepting grant applications for local projects, programs

The Emporia Community Foundation will be accepting grant applications for the 2016 grant cycle. The foundation’s grants committee makes grants for innovative projects and programs that are responsive to changing community needs in the areas of health, social service, education, recreation, and cultural affairs.

The 2016 grant period will begin with applications being accepted during the month of September. Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015. Recipients will be announced in December and disbursements will be made in January 2016.

In January 2015, ECF awarded $18,620 to six area organizations. Grant recipients, along with their planned activities and award amounts were as follows:

  • ECKAN, East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation, project for specialized dental services in Osage County, $8,000.
  • Bluestem Arts Society of Greenwood County, funds to cover expenses to formalize the society, $1,500.
  • Elmendaro Township Library, Hartford, book checkout automation services and summer reading program, $2,000.
  • TFI Family Services, Inc., funds to increase foster home services, $4,000.
  • Big Brother Big Sisters of the Flint Hills, Inc., implement “Kids College” program, $1,500.
  • Girl Scouts of the Kansas Heartland, an endeavor to implement new software to assist volunteers, $1,620.
