Mid-America Nutrition Program will host its third annual sporting clay shoot as a Meals on Wheels benefit 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 19, at the Locust Point Gun Club, 19939 S. Berryton Rd., Lyndon, located north of Pomona Lake.

Entry fee to participate is $45 for 50 targets, (additional rounds available). A barbecue lunch is included for shooters with paid entry fee. Over a $1,000 in prizes will be drawn on the day of the shoot. Prizes are from Cabelas, Scheels, Hornady, Bass Pro, Costco, Walmart, Westlake Hardware, NAPA, along with a special basket from Sugar Creek Boutique for the ladies. Shooters get one ticket for each broken target to be placed in buckets of choice for prizes. There also will be a raffle for a Remington 870 Express Magnum 12 gauge shotgun donated by Liberty Pawn & Gold.

Mid-America Nutrition Program receives 40 percent of its funding from donations and fundraising, 53 percent of its funding from federal and state tax dollars, and 7 percent from the six counties that it serves. Despite relying heavily on donations, MANP never denies a meal to anyone in need.

Meals on Wheels is a program that provides essential nutrition to homebound seniors, but also a wellness check that assures they are safe. Many of those receiving Meals on Wheels don’t see anyone other than the person who delivers their meal on a daily basis.

Mid-America Nutrition Program is a not for profit agency that provides meals and nutrition support to help seniors remain independent in their own homes. The program is a cooperative arrangement between six counties: Franklin, Anderson, Osage, Linn, Miami and Coffey. The meals are funded in part by the Older American’s Act, the state of Kansas and each of the counties served. The state and federal funding is administered by the East Central Kansas Area Agency on Aging and Disability Resources.
