Local pantry needs restocked with personal sundries

By Raylene Quaney, Help House

The Good Sense Budget Course is being offered again by Help House on Sept. 21 and 28. The morning session is 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. both days. The evening class will be from 6 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. both days. Participants must attend both days to complete the course. Upon course completion, participants will be eligible to apply for assistance for help with upcoming winter heating cost.  Call 785-828-4888 if you are a resident of Osage County to pre-register for the class. Six families received utility assistance in August. All had completed the simple to use Good Sense Budget Course.

During the last couple of months our donations to the food pantry have been down. The needs at this time are for a number of non-food Items that we provide and cannot be purchased with the SNAP program. Those items are shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, tooth brushes, deodorant, diapers (especially the larger size 4s and 5s), Pull ups, adult bladder control products, laundry detergent, cleaning products, dish soap, bath soap, disposable razors, shaving cream, and etc. If you are traveling and not using the items provided by hotels and motels for their guests, take along a plastic bag and collect them for Help House.

The total number of households served during the month of August was 184.

Oct. 6-30 Help House will be holding its second annual coat giveaway. We are asking for donations of coats any and all sizes that are clean and in good condition be brought into the center at any time. We would ask that you not leave them in the shed, but bring them inside. Last year children’s coats were in short supply, so please think of those children in need as you are going through your closets and storage and find coats your family can no longer use.
