Friday morning storm leaves Osage City without power, closes schools

A storm that hit Osage City early Friday morning has left the town without electricity due to a blown fuse on a transformer, city officials reported. Westar crews have been called to work on the high voltage equipment and restore power.

Crews from Burlingame, Baldwin City and Osage County are helping with cleanup and repair, as there are trees, tree limbs, several snapped poles, and power lines down throughout the city.

Due to the power outage, USD 420 has cancelled classes and staff committee meetings scheduled for today. Tonight’s football game at Chase County will go on as scheduled.

The storm knocked out a fuse on a main transformer at the power plant, causing the power outage across the city. The city has advised residents that power will be restored when the transformer is repaired.
