Kick up the dust at Harveyville fair

Harveyville’s annual fair will be a barnyard bash this Friday and Saturday, featuring old-fashioned fun, a parade, and live entertainment during the first fall weekend of the year.

The fair’s theme this year is “Barnyard Bash – Kick the Dust Up!” Festivities get under way Friday evening with an outdoor movie and the strong man and strong woman competition. Here’s the schedule to plan your weekend at the Harveyville Fair.

Harveyville Fair Schedule

Friday, Sept. 25, 2015

  • 8 p.m. – Outdoor movie (Bring chair/blanket, displayed on city building). Free popcorn.
  • 8 p.m. – Strong man and woman competition (ball field). New events; awards will be given for first, second and third place male and female winners.

Saturday, September 26, 2015

  • 9 a.m.-4 p.m. – Inflatables (Oak/Wabaunsee, weather permitting), $10 unlimited rides.
  • 9 a.m.-4 p.m. – Car bash (behind ball field)
  • 9 a.m. – Petting zoo, vendors open (front of IOOF),
  • 9 a.m. – Frog and turtle races (Oak Street); scavenger hunt begins (list at Oak Street/Roberts Barn).
  •  9 a.m. – Chainsaw wood carver Steven Higgins (Church of
  • Christ lot). Carvings done throughout the day will be auctioned off at the ice cream social.
  • 9 a.m.-1 p.m. – Kansas Highway Patrol seatbelt simulator (Main Street)
  • 9 a.m.-3 p.m. – Raffle ticket sales (Oak Street/Roberts Barn)
  • 10 a.m. – Foot races, wheelbarrow races (ball field).
  • 10 a.m. – Dunk tank (Oak and Wabaunsee), Dance Spot fundraiser
  • 10 a.m.-12 p.m. – Say Cheez photo booth – free! (Between library and bank – Oak Street)
  • 10 a.m.-2 p.m. – Holly Hinck face painting – free! (Oak Street)
  • 10:30-1:30 Children’s activities and games, train rides.
  • 10:30-2:30 Music by Country Music Makers, Butch Akers and mom (Oak Street).
  • 10:45 a.m. – Nail driving contest (Oak St/Roberts Barn).
  • 11 a.m. – Adult and teen skillet toss (Behind Firehouse).
  • 11:30 a.m. – Eating contest (Oak St/Roberts Barn).
  • 12:30 p.m. – Presentation of Harveyville royalty (Oak Street).
  • 1 p.m. – Kiddie and pet parade (Oak Street).
  • 1:10 p.m. – Costume contest: Best dressed barnyard themed person(s).
  • Free cupcakes (Oak Street).
  • 1:20 p.m. – The Dance Spot cheer and dancers (Oak Street).
  • 1:30 p.m. – Main parade registration (front of old school).
  • 2 p.m. – Main parade; prizes for floats, antique vehicles and horses. Following parade: watermelon feed.
  • 3:30 p.m. – Water balloon, egg toss and bubblegum blowing
  • contest (oak st.).
  • 5 p.m. – John Bruckerhoff, magician (Oak Street). Bring a chair/blanket and be ready for some fun.
  • 6:30 p.m. – Raffle winners announced and auction (Oak Street).
  • 7 p.m. – Ice cream social (Oak Street).
  • 7:30 p.m. – Live entertainment, featuring “Close Enough.” Bring a lawn chair (Oak Street); Musical chairs – 10 contestants, must be at least 18 years old. Prize awarded to the winner.
