Happy birthday! Everyone’s invited to senior center’s monthly birthday party

It’s a busy place around the Osage County Senior Center! We are having lots of fun, laughter, fellowship, exercise and good food. Speaking of food, please note our birthday luncheon will be held the second Wednesday in October instead of the third Wednesday. Mark your calendar for Wednesday, Oct. 14, for the birthday luncheon; blood pressure checks will follow the luncheon.

Also, we have set up a time to have experts assist you in Medicare Part D enrollment: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30. If you need help or have questions, come on down and we can help you. We are also having our costume Halloween party that same morning from 10 a.m. to noon.

Our new activity of balloon volleyball has been a big hit. I would like to add it to the itinerary for Friday starting at 9 a.m. It is great low-impact exercise and lots of fun. It is our version of beach volleyball without the sand and sun. Swimsuits are optional. Then stay for our arthritis friendly yoga session at 11 a.m. every Friday. Both the balloon volleyball and yoga activities are designed to be good exercise and stretching which can help improve your physical and mental health. Plus it is fun!

A fun bus trip is scheduled for Oct. 11 to the Old Depot Museum, in Ottawa, which has a Fred Harvey and the Harvey Girls exhibit; supper follows at Smoking Creations.

Oct. 21 is Count Your Button Day! at the senior center. This is an example of a quirky celebration that as of yet has defied a true explanation. If you have some free time, stop in and guess how many buttons are in Nancy’s button jar.

Join us for lunch, as the nutrition site will have a noon meal for the suggested donation of $3 for seniors and $6 for everyone else. Reservations are required; reserve your meal in advance by calling the Osage County Senior Center at 785-528-4906.

Start planning now and get your costume ready for the Oct. 30 Halloween party. Dress up from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Stay and play some haunted bingo with a few special prizes. The nutrition site will have a noon meal of Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes, country vegetables, bread, and Lemon Medley. Reserve your meal in advance by calling the Osage County Senior Center at 785-528-4906, or stop by at 604 Market St., Osage City.
