If it matters to you, it matters to us

An old Yiddish proverb says, “What soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul.” Everyone knows that laughter makes you feel good and puts you in high spirits, but did you also know that laughter actually causes physiological responses that protect the body from disease and help your vital organs repair themselves? A good laugh can be compared to a mild workout, as it exercises the muscles, gets the blood flowing, decreases blood pressure and stress hormones, improves sleep patterns and boosts the immune system. Furthermore, a study by the John Hopkins University Medical School showed that humor and laughter can also improve memory and mental performance. Yet despite the fact that laughter has so many benefits, far too many of us forget to even crack a smile every once in a while, let alone laugh.

Come laugh with us at the Osage County Senior Center:

  • Play bingo at 10 a.m. every Friday.
  • Play balloon volleyball at 9 a.m. Friday.
  • Attend low impact yoga at 11 a.m. Friday.
  • Participate in crafts and art classes (see schedule).
  • Eat lunch every weekday.
  • Birthday dinner every third Wednesday of the month except in October.
  • Field trips and excursions – Oct. 11, Ottawa, Oct. 17, Maple Leaf Festival, Baldwin City.
  • Play cards.
  • Morning coffee.

  • Thursday, Oct. 8 – Biscuits and gravy 8:30 a.m., art and painting 9 a.m., blood drive
  • Friday, Oct. 9 – Balloon volleyball 9 a.m., bingo 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m., yoga 11 a.m., cribbage 12:15 p.m.
  • Monday, Oct. 12 – Sewing 8 a.m., armchair exercise 11 a.m., cribbage 12:15 p.m., play pitch and eat 5:15 p.m. cards begin at 5:45 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 13 – Ceramics 9 a.m., Mexican Train games 1 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 14 – Sewing 8 a.m., armchair exercise 10:30, cribbage12:15, blood pressure checks
  • Thursday, Oct. 15 – Art and painting 9 a.m.
