Have a skill you’d like to share? Volunteers sought to help their neighbors

112114-LAWNMOWER-01In collaboration between Ecumenical Christian Action Team (ECAT), East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corp. (ECKAN), and Help House, the local assistance agencies are seeking experienced volunteers willing to donate their time in assisting their neighbors and others.

The types of services and skills sought for sharing include mowing, snow shoveling, minor household repairs, auto repairs, helping residents move, winterizing a home (plastic on windows, rope caulking, weather stripping, trimming branches). The agencies are also seeking individuals who have retired from a profession and want to give back to their community.  Lawyers, accountants, plumbers, carpenters, and auto mechanics all could be helpful, along with tax return preparation assistance, making budgets, legal advice, advocacy, mentoring and transportation.

While volunteers would provide labor or services, any necessary supplies will be the responsibility of the customer.

If you have wanted to give back to your community, this collaboration provides you a chance. The agencies are compiling a list of individuals who can provide assistance on an on-call basis. Anyone who would like to help, or any church groups, organizations, or citizens already offering these types of services are asked to contact ECKAN at 785-528-5184.

Information thanks to ECKAN.
